2 Korean naval warships arrive on goodwill visit

first_imgChennai, Sept 16 (PTI) Two Korean naval warships arrived here today as part of a goodwill visit. As part of celebrating the 70th anniversary of Korean Independence and founding of the Republic of Korea Navy, RoK Cruise Training Task Group had embarked on a 132 day voyage from August 26, a Defence release here said. The group was scheduled to visit 15 countries, including India. “As part of the goodwill visit, Republic of Korea Naval Ships ROKS Kang Gam Chan and ROKS Daecheong arrived at Chennai Port on Wednesday. The visit is expected to bolster navy-to-navy cooperation and is an indicator of the importance given by the Republic of Korea to India,” it said. The visit will include courtesy calls, receptions, ship tours, professional exchanges and sport fixtures between the Naval personnel of Korea and India, it said adding the ships will leave the port Friday, September 18. Oil Platform Catches Fire off Corpus Christi

first_imgzoom A Magellan-owned oil platform, located three miles offshore of Corpus Christi, suffered a fire in the afternoon hours of March 7.According to the United States Coast Guard, watchstanders received a report of the fire and launched a Coast Guard Station Port Aransas 45-foot response boat crew to the area.Once on scene, the response boat crew established a 200-yard safety zone. There were no persons aboard the platform at the time of the fire and at around 6:30 p.m. local time the response boat crew reported the fire was out.A team of firefighters, coordinated by O’Brien’s Response Management, arrived on the platform and confirmed the fire was out, as well as no visible signs of pollution.An investigation into the cause of the fire was launched.last_img
