DOHERTY: ‘NO MORE ACCOUNTING TRICKS ON ANGLO BAIL-OUT’

first_imgSinn Féin Finance Spokesperson Pearse Doherty has said that the public don’t want and won’t stand for another accounting trick this year when the IBRC (Anglo Irish Bank) Promissory Note payment falls due.Deputy Doherty said: “Last year the government cynically tried to conceal its payment of the promissory note through a book-keeping trick. It was seen quickly through for what it was.“The public are more keenly aware now of what is at stake. They know that as things stand the government is set to pay €3 billion of their money to the Central Bank who will then destroy it. “I am warning the government that they must be open and honest on what effect paying the note will have for citizens. Last year’s accounting trick has only added to the anger and cynicism of the public as they see that their money was wasted last year on promissory notes and is set to be wasted once again this year.“Sinn Féin is clear on what the government should do. They should make it clear that Ireland cannot afford to continue paying the promissory notes and that we will not do so on March 31.“Last year’s charade must be put behind us and the government must face up to reality. An extension of the time to repay the promissory notes is not a just solution.”  DOHERTY: ‘NO MORE ACCOUNTING TRICKS ON ANGLO BAIL-OUT’ was last modified: February 4th, 2013 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:DOHERTY: ‘NO MORE ACCOUNTING TRICKS ON ANGLO BAIL-OUT’last_img read more
