first_imgFAVORED APACHE PRINCESS MUCH BEST IN SLOP AS SHE TAKES $100,000 SWEET LIFE STAKES BY 3 ¼ LENGTHS; MOVED FROM THE TURF TO MAIN TRACK, SHE GETS 6 ½ FURLONGS IN 1:16.82 FOR ‘BROTHERS DESORMEAUX’ ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 10, 2019)–A California-bred daughter of Unusual Heat, KMN Racing’s homebred Apache Princess relished a change in surface from Santa Anita’s hillside turf course to 6 ½ furlongs on a sloppy main track as she rallied up the rail to take the $100,000 Sweet Life Stakes by 3 ¼ lengths.  Trained by Keith Desormeaux and ridden by his Hall of Fame brother Kent, Apache Princess got the distance in 1:16.82 despite the fact Kent dropped his stick inside the furlong pole.“That’s embarrassing, but (it’s) the second time I’ve done that with her and she’s won the race for me,” said Kent.  “She proves that she doesn’t need it, she just needs encouragement with my mouth.  If I kiss at her, shake the reins at her, throw crosses and she continues…”A maiden winner down the hillside turf two starts back and a 3 ½ length allowance winner over the hillside course on Jan. 21, Apache Princess was off as the 6-5 favorite in a field of five sophomore fillies and paid $4.60, $2.60 and $2.40.Out of KMN Racing’s Indian Charlie mare Puskita, Apache Princess, who became the first three-time winner at the meet, now has three wins from six starts and with the winner’s share of $60,000, increased her earnings to $171,960.English-bred Thriving, who was head and head for the early lead with eventual fourth place finisher Nomizar, was off at 9-2 and paid $3.80 and $2.60 while finishing a nose in front of Splashy Kisses.Ridden by Heriberto Figueroa, Splashy Kisses was off at 2-1 and paid $2.40 to show.Fractions on the race were 22.35, 45.12 and 1:10.15.Originally a Grade III on turf, today’s Sweet Life Stakes result will be evaluated by the American Graded Stakes Committee in the coming days to determine if today’s race will retain its graded status. With the surface changed announced prior to today’s fifth race, there was one late scratch out of the Sweet Life, Irish-bred Ginger Nut, a turf specialist, who was to have made her U.S. debut for trainer John Sadler.last_img read more

Redknapp backs Dele to salvage Tottenham’s top-four mission

first_imgHARRY REDKNAPP has backed Dele Alli to salvage Tottenham’s top-four mission. The England midfielder has faced criticism for his form this season and has been snubbed by Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate.2 Dele Alli has been hailed by former Spurs boss Harry RedknappBut former Spurs boss Redknapp insists rejuvenated Dele, who has scored twice in his last four Prem games, can be crucial to resurrecting their season. He said: “Dele is striking a bit of form again.“He is a key player for me, I’m such a fan of his.“They tell me he is a great lad as well.“He got badly criticised for his performance at Liverpool (in the 2-1 defeat) but he covered more yards than any other player by so much it was ridiculous.“And yet he got criticised for not running or working hard after the game.“When you looked at it he had certainly put a shift in. It’s not gone well but I think he’s a good kid and a good trainer. His form has dipped.“He hit such high standards a year or two before. If he can get back to that form again then that would be a major boost.”Spurs sit 14th in the Premier League with just THREE wins after a dreadful start to the season. It leaves them 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City, with Chelsea and Leicester another point ahead.TOP FOUR PREDICTIONBut Redknapp believes last season’s Champions League finalists should not be written off just yet.He said: “Tottenham have it all on now to get in the top four this year.“The only thing now in their favour is that Arsenal look so poor. Chelsea are doing great, they’re going to be challenging. Leicester are going to be bang in there.“But you’re looking at Arsenal — and Manchester United — and wondering if they are going to make it this year.“I can see both of those two not making the top four unless there is a big improvement.”Redknapp added: “It’s been a disappointing season so far for Spurs.“I really thought they would be close to Manchester City and Liverpool and challenging.“It’s difficult. The players haven’t hit the form they did last year.2MOST READ IN FOOTBALLTHROUGH ITRobbie Keane reveals Claudine’s father was ’50-50′ in coronavirus battleTOP SELLERGavin Whelan has gone from League of Ireland to David Beckham’s InstagramExclusiveRIYAD RAIDMan City’s Riyad Mahrez has three luxury watches stolen in £500,000 raidPicturedAN EYEFULMeet Playboy model and football agent Anamaria Prodan bidding to buy her own clubI SAW ROORodallega saw Rooney ‘drinking like madman’ & Gerrard ‘on bar dancing shirtless’NEXT STEPJonny Hayes set to move to English Championship having been let go by CelticREF RELEASEDChampions League ref Vincic released by cops after arrest in prostitution raidKEANE DEALEx Man United youth ace David Jones says Roy Keane negotiated a contract for himREF RAIDChampions League ref Vincic ‘arrested in raid into drugs and prostitution ring’NICE RONCristiano Ronaldo goes on family bike ride with partner Georgina Rodriguez & kids“They still have a fantastic squad.“I’m a big fan of the manager and hopefully they can turn it around.”HARRY REDKNAPP was speaking during a visit to the University of Gloucestershire’s Media School, where he was interviewed by students from the BA Sports Journalism course.Visit for more information.ACCA WITH LADBROKES Pick up a whole load of acca features to help you land the big onelast_img read more
